Medina County officials have identified the worker who died at a construction site tied to a future data center near Lytle, Texas. Maurice McGowan, 28, was fatally struck by an articulating truck on Oct. 13, they said. Emergency responders arrived on site, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident occurred at Rowan Digital Infrastructure’s Cinco data center campus near San Antonio, which broke ground on Aug. 7. The development, Rowan’s first hyperscale campus in Texas, is designed to deliver up to 300 MW of data center capacity and is backed by a minimum investment of $900 million, according to the firm. Rowan has not announced a completion date.

Turner Construction is serving as general contractor. McGowan was employed as a subcontractor, although the name of the subcontracting firm has not been confirmed. In a statement, Turner said its staff and onsite medics responded immediately, and emergency services took over upon arrival, “but the individual was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

Turner said all work on site was suspended and that it is cooperating with authorities in the accident probe. The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration and local authorities are investigating.

“We are committed to understanding how this happened to ensure an incident like this never occurs again,” the Turner statement continued.

In a separate statement, Rowan chief data center officer Dan McNary, said: “Safety is always our highest priority, and we are doing everything we can to support our general contractor coordinating with the appropriate authorities on a full investigation.” He added:   “We are offering support to all those affected by this tragedy.”
