STATEN ISLAND, NY — Kathryn Giovinazzo, vice president of clinical operations at Richmond University Medical Center, has achieved the Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives credential, marking a significant professional milestone after more than three decades with the Staten Island hospital.
The designation represents board certification in healthcare management and requires candidates to demonstrate professional experience, complete continuing education, contribute to professional and community service, and pass a comprehensive examination. Fellows must maintain the credential through recertification every three years.
“Earning the Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives credential is a meaningful milestone in my professional journey,” Giovinazzo said. “It reflects my commitment to advancing healthcare leadership excellence, operational integrity, and the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care at Richmond University Medical Center and to the communities we serve.”
The native Staten Islander oversees clinical operations across multiple departments, including radiology, respiratory services, rehabilitation, vascular lab, sleep lab, laboratory medicine, and cardiology. She began her career at RUMC over 30 years ago and has led initiatives to optimize clinical workflows, enhance interdisciplinary collaboration, and support quality improvement throughout hospital operations.
Daniel J. Messina, president and CEO of RUMC, praised Giovinazzo’s achievement and leadership contributions.
“Kathy’s commitment to quality, strategic vision, and patient-centered care has long distinguished her among her peers,” Messina said. “Her attainment of FACHE certification further strengthens our leadership depth of experience and reaffirms our mission to deliver outstanding care with integrity.”
The American College of Healthcare Executives serves as an international professional society representing more than 50,000 healthcare executives who lead hospitals, healthcare systems, and other healthcare organizations. FACHE stands as the only professional board certification in healthcare management, awarded exclusively to those meeting strict eligibility criteria in education, experience, ethics, examination, and continuing professional development.
“At a time when healthcare complexity and demand continue to grow, leaders who combine operational savvy with clinical insight are essential,” Messina added. “Kathy’s new credential reinforces the confidence our staff, medical community, and patients place in our leadership team.”
Under Giovinazzo’s leadership, the hospital has seen improvements in patient throughput, staff development, and coordinated care initiatives.
