Reading to hold energy efficiency project update on Oct. 14

by Linda

Reading will showcase progress on its $18 million energy efficiency initiative during an upcoming public session at City Hall.

The event, hosted by Green Building Alliance in partnership with Schneider Electric and the city’s Public Works Department, will provide updates on work completed under the Guaranteed Energy Savings Act program.

Through this model, the city partnered with Schneider Electric to finance major projects aimed at reducing energy usage, lowering utility bills and moving toward 100% renewable energy by 2050.

City officials expect the upgrades to result in substantial monthly savings, which can be redirected to other public services, while advancing sustainability and energy resilience.

The project is scheduled for completion in late 2026.

The session is tailored for public-sector professionals, including municipal leaders, school districts and local authorities. It will cover the structure of the GESA initiative, the benefits of working with energy service companies and project updates.

The alliance will also share an overview of the new Reading Municipal Investment Fund program, announced earlier this month.
