EDMOND, Okla. (KFOR) – The Edmond Police Department is reminding drivers beginning November 1st it will be illegal to be holding your cell phone in an active school zone or construction zone.

The Oklahoma House of Representatives passed House Bill 2263 to curb distracted driving in school and work zones.

The measure authored by Rep. Nicole Miller, R-Edmond, focuses on improving road safety, “Distracted driving is a serious issue, and this bill is a straightforward, common-sense step to keep drivers’ focus where it belongs: on the road,” Miller said. “You can still take a call using hands-free technology but putting the phone down in these critical areas will help save lives. It’s a small change that makes a significant difference.”
