Michigan and Ohio don’t team up on much, but breweries from the two states have done just that.
Griffin Claw Brewing Company in Birmingham and Rochester Hills and Cincinnati’s Streetside Brewery have combined to release a new beer, Big Cat Energy, ahead of an NFL clash between the Lions and Bengals in Cincy on Sunday.
“Lions fans heading down for the game now have a reason to pause for a pit stop,” a news release said.
The beer is a 6% ABV English-style porter that’s “part lion, part tiger and all magic.” It features can art inspired by the legendary ‘liger’ from the 2004 comedy “Napoleon Dynamite.”
The brew is available in 4-packs of 16oz cans and on draft at Streetside’s Cincinnati taproom at 4003 Eastern Avenue.

In 2024, the breweries teamed up to kick off their ‘Coney Wars,’ which each brewing dueling coney-inspired beers.
“A heated rivalry like the one we have with Griffin Claw takes twists and turns you non-brewery folks can scarcely imagine,” Streetside staff wrote on Facebook.
“But after the carnage of the Great Coney War, this time we’ve decided to let our respective NFL teams fight it out on the field while we (paradoxically?) put our heads together and make one damn fine Porter.”
Kick between he Lions (3-1) and Bengals (2-2) at Paycor Stadium is set for 4:25 p.m.
