In a world where utility costs climb as steadily as the summer sun, EMT, headquartered in the Northeast and operating across multiple states, has become a trusted name in both solar energy and home improvement, offering everything from roofing and siding to full-scale solar solutions.
While EMT’s technical expertise drives results, its true foundation lies in the bonds between the people who run it.
The company’s story began with Thomas Cleary, a founder with a vision to make renewable energy accessible to every homeowner. Cleary saw beyond spreadsheets and profit margins; he saw an opportunity to transform lives. Alongside Christopher Poole, a seasoned operator, veteran, and co-owner, and Johnny Cruz, Chief Revenue Officer and co-owner, he built a leadership team grounded in values of service, sustainability, and integrity. “Our mission is to provide homeowners with the tools they need to take control of their energy future. It’s about empowerment, not just installation,” says Thomas Cleary, CEO and Founder of EMT Solar & Roofing.
Supporting these founding visions are Shawn Ryan, Vice President of Sales Strategy, and Mark Chase, Vice President of Business Development. Industry colleagues and longtime friends, Ryan and Chase joined forces two years ago with a simple but powerful goal: to take EMT to the next level.
“There was an immediate alignment, not just on the business, but on the culture we wanted to build,” Shawn shares. “From one end of the company to the other, we knew we could create something special.”
At EMT, “special” means family. Their close-knit leadership team, affectionately nicknamed “The A-Team,” spans from along the entire East Coast, all the way to Mumbai, where team members have been working alongside EMT leadership for nearly a decade.
It’s a group that’s weathered the “solar coaster” of industry highs and lows together, emerging stronger each time. “Life isn’t about what you do, it’s who you do it with; that’s what matters,” Chase says.
That shared purpose is tied to EMT’s mission: to change lives. For homeowners, that could mean lowering energy costs, replacing aging roofs, and keeping families comfortable.
In the Northeast, where seasonal weather swings can wreak havoc on roofing, EMT programs can be life changing.
“If we can help a homeowner save thousands of dollars immediately, we’re putting them in a much better position,” Shawn explains. “Sometimes, we’re preventing serious damage, health issues, or financial strain before it even starts.”
The company offers multiple solar programs for households in different financial situations. Some homeowners choose to purchase or finance their systems, where they could benefit from tax credits and renewable energy incentives, while others opt for third-party ownership models like leases or power purchase agreements (PPAs).
These options could potentially allow customers to lock in electricity rates 30–50% lower than their current utility costs, bringing stability in markets where rates can spike without warning. “There are three things you can’t avoid: death, taxes, and your utility bill,” Shawn says. “We can’t do much about the first two, but we can help with the third.”
Shifting policies and tax incentive changes could affect accessibility for some homeowners in the future. EMT’s diversified services, including roofing, siding, gutter replacement, and other home improvements, ensure they’re ready to adapt. “We’re set up either way,” Shawn says. “The mission doesn’t change: we help homeowners, and we keep growing our family.”
Beyond the business metrics, EMT’s impact is measured in people. From door-to-door representatives braving summer heat to installers earning glowing customer reviews, the company’s work is deeply personal. Shawn states, “Whether it’s an employee or a homeowner, if they’re in a better position, because EMT showed up, that’s success.”
As EMT looks ahead, its focus remains on expanding both its reach and mission. Whether installing solar panels, replacing a roof, or simply giving a homeowner new options they didn’t know existed, EMT is building toward a future where energy is cleaner, homes are stronger, and families are better prepared for whatever comes next.
“We’ve been through every high and low this industry has to offer,” Shawn says. “What keeps us going is knowing we’re building something bigger than ourselves. As we keep powering homes, we’re also empowering lives. And that’s the goal.”
