NAPOLEONVILLE, La. (WKRC) – A healthcare worker allegedly burned a patient with a lighter multiple times over a short period, telling the victim’s family that the wounds were from wasps.
The Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office was contacted by a healthcare facility on October 6 regarding a patient that employees believed “may be the victim of abuse,” according to a press release.
Officers learned that 36-year-old Markus M. D. Stadium, one of the healthcare attendants working with the victim, allegedly told the patient’s family that they had been stung by wasps.
“The family members became suspicious due to the nature of the injuries as well as the frequency of the injuries,” the release read. “Detectives interviewed medical personnel who indicated the victim was burned on multiple occasions throughout his body.”
Authorities said they obtained “electronically generated evidence of the healthcare worker now identified as Markus M. D. Stadium burning the victim with a barbecue grill type lighter” during the investigation.
Stadium was arrested and charged with cruelty to the infirmed.
