Healthcare facilities are fast-paced environments that are constantly evolving. To keep up with the growing patient population and demands, these facilities need to be able to easily install new technology with minimal disruption to their daily operations.
Lighting is a key part of any hospital or healthcare facility. From large operating lights to hanging lights in conference rooms, lighting plays a crucial role in creating a successful environment for both healthcare workers and patients. The hangers that hold up these lights and other key mechanical, electrical and plumbing equipment, however, haven’t always been up to the task of maintaining a clean, quiet hospital setting.
“Many healthcare facilities are using hangers that have to be drilled into concrete, which can make a mess on the floor and ruin a sterile environment,” said Nucor Vulcraft Verco Commercial Solutions Supervisor Brigitte Jenkins. “Drilling through concrete is also incredibly noisy, which can impact the patient experience and keep healthcare workers from concentrating on their work.”
Nucor’s new PinTail anchors, along with its next-generation Dovetail deck, offer healthcare facilities a solution to these common hanger problems. The PinTail anchors, which are installed in the Dovetail deck, are quiet, clean and removable, Jenkins said. They give healthcare workers the ability to change a room to suit their needs while minimizing disruption during a remodel.
The Dovetail deck has also been designed to help prepare healthcare facilities for whatever the future may hold, Jenkins said. It has increased load capacities and increased spans to help facilities grow as needed and stay compliant with changing load requirements.
“When we look at building designs, we’re typically only seeing load requirements increase,” she said. “Using a deck that’s going to offer more capacity will come in handy both now and in the future.”
Safety is also a top concern, not only at healthcare facilities but for all construction projects. PinTail anchors can be installed in the deck with a single hand and do not require a special certification to install them, so any general contractor can handle the job, she said.
“From a timeline standpoint, you can utilize essentially anyone to install the PinTail anchor. You’re not waiting for a certain group of people to arrive on the job site,” Jenkins said. “This is crucial when every second counts on tight project deadlines.”
Only a visual inspection is needed to ensure proper installation. No need for special equipment and processes.
She added that there is a great deal of value associated with the flexibility of these anchors. The fact that they can easily be removed and quickly reinstalled to meet the changing needs of a healthcare facility with minimal disruption to daily operations is key.
“For healthcare facilities, it’s all about finding ways to future-proof their buildings without impeding the patient or provider experience,” Jenkins said. “We have designed the Dovetail deck and PinTail anchor to allow them to do just that.”
