Employee satisfaction in healthcare and social sciences saw a four-point decrease from 128 in September to 124 in October, according to ADP’s Employee Motivation and Commitment Index published Friday.
Although the drop is slight, this is the second month in a row of a decrease. Employee satisfaction in healthcare and social sciences saw a 12-point decrease from August to September, from 140 in August to 128 in September, ADP said.
The EMC Index tracks how people think and feel about their jobs and employers each month.
A year ago, the healthcare and social sciences sector’s EMC score was 139, a decrease from 144 the previous month.
In the latest report, overall employee satisfaction dipped slightly. Only three sectors saw improvement in October. Information had the largest gain, adding 10 points to 149. Finance and insurance, which has been rising steadily since March, climbed seven points to 123,marking a new record high. Professional, scientific and technical services edged up two points to 143.
“Worker sentiment has been mostly unaffected by this year’s hiring slowdown, but this resilience might be starting to fray,” said Mary Hayes, PhD, director of people and performance at ADP Research. “We’ll be watching to see whether sentiment continues to weaken.”
For this month’s report, ADP Research collected responses from 2,500 US workers from Oct. 1 through Oct. 8. The next results of the EMC Index will be released Nov. 18.
Consumer Price Index rises
In a separate report published Friday, the Bureau of Labor Statistics disclosed that the Consumer Price Index increased by 0.3% in September, raising the annual inflation rate to 3%. The annual rate reflected a 0.1 percentage point uptick from August.
Excluding food and energy, which increased by 0.3% and 1.5%, respectively, CPI rose by 0.2% after rising 0.3% in each of the two preceding months, according to BLS.
“The CPI reading is the only official economic data allowed to be released during the government shutdown,” CNBC reported.
