Gunfire shatters windows at Spectrum store, finance business in Raleigh :: WRAL.com

A Spectrum store and finance business were hit by gunfire late Thursday night around a busy shopping area in northeast Raleigh.

At least two windows and a door were shattered by the gunshots.

Raleigh police said officers responded to a reported shots fired call around 11:30 p.m.

They found damage from gunfire at Spectrum and Mariner Finance on Poyner Village Parkway. The businesses are in a shopping center across the street from Triangle Town Center.

Raleigh police confirmed there were no injuries reported and no one has been arrested.

The WRAL Breaking News Tracker captured video of the bullet holes in the windows of the store fronts. WRAL News spoke with an employee at Spectrum who was called in to check on the business.

The employee said bullet holes damaged the store’s Apple display and some couches. She said officers told her people were running on foot and shooting. WRAL News is working to confirm this with police.

As crews worked to board up the window, Spectrum delayed its opening until noon.

“They wouldn’t let nobody in…There was glass outside, inside. There was guys trying to clean,” customer Onrai Conwell told WRAL.

Another man who works nearby said he was taken aback by the sight of a bullet hole.

“I saw the construction crew fixing up the windows,” said Kaanu Rennie. “I was
surprised to see a bullet hole and a bunch of glass everywhere. It’s not
something I usually see around here.”

The Spectrum employee and a security officer for the shopping center told WRAL News that crime is not common in the area.

Despite that, Conwell said he hopes the property managers consider enhancing security in the area.

“This particular area, although it seems pretty nice, they still should have cameras on all the corners. That will take care of the problem,” he said.

Raleigh police are investigating the incident. WRAL News is working to find out what led up to the incident.
