MassHire Springfield will be hosting a job expo on Monday, Oct. 6, at the Basketball Hall of Fame, 1000 Hall of Fame Ave., Springfield. Forty to Forty-five companies are expected to attend the event which runs from 4 to 7 p.m. They will be hiring to fill hundreds of openings. Job seekers will have opportunities available in many different industries including; health care, manufacturing, social services, education and banking. The Job Expo is held in Center Court and is open to the public. In our increasingly online world, this is one of the few places where applicants and recruiters can meet face to face.

Easthampton, Northampton, and Westhampton are among 58 communities selected to join the 2025-2027 Mass Save Community First Partnership, which will bring expanded energy services to local residents and businesses.
The three municipalities aim to reduce energy use, lower costs, and improve the comfort and health of homes and buildings in collaboration with Mass Save Sponsors Berkshire Gas, Eversource, and National Grid.
The municipalities have hired energy advocate Hannah Davis to lead this effort. They will focus on reaching renters, landlords, non-English speakers, low- and moderate-income households, and small businesses. They will help connect community members with no-cost Mass Save energy assessments, which identify opportunities for energy savings through insulation, weatherization, and high-efficiency heating and cooling upgrades, including heat pumps.
Eligible participants can receive up to 100% off approved energy upgrades, as well as no-cost energy- and water-saving products.
As part of the partnership, the three communities are eligible for up to $48,733.60 annually for three years, along with additional training, marketing, and technical support.

The Liberty Bank Foundation recently donated $10,000 to Square One in Springfield in support of its Learn & Earn Workforce Development initiative.
Through partnerships with Holyoke Community College and area employers, Learn & Earn participants receive HiSET education support and paid workforce training. Participants who need care for their children also receive access to Square One’s early education and care programs.
In addition to receiving support from the Liberty Bank Foundation and others, the program is largely funded through a grant from MassHire Hampden County Workforce Board. Together, these funds cover the salaries and expenses of the program participants.

Developer Bruce Volz will open a modern fueling station, called DC Station, at 5 Fulton Ave., Northampton, on Oct. 4, providing 10 fast, Level 3 charging ports for electric vehicles and a place for drivers to grab coffee or a meal while they wait.
The station — named DC for Direct Current — will also offer a learning hub, EV Base Camp, for those interested in EVs. Solar panels will cover the charging stations to help defray the cost of the electricity.
Volz seeks tenants for DC Station, in particular, a coffee house or café to serve customers from early morning to afternoon, and a casual restaurant, such as a pizza or taco house.
