The growth of AI and data centers creates enormous loads on energy grids, sometimes causing unpredictable outages. Bloom Energy has developed onsite power systems to provide 24/7 reliability. Their fuel cells convert natural gas, bio-gas, or hydrogen into electricity, without combustion, resulting in no or limited CO2 emissions. Rather than precious metals often used in fuel cells, Energy Server uses ceramic material. It offers generators ranging from 200 kilowatts to 20 megawatts, and the systems can be grouped. Customers include Home Depot, Stop & Shop, Honda, and FedEx, and it announced a 1 gigawatt partnership with the utility provider American Electric Power in November 2024.
