The City of Alabaster, Alabama, announced significant progress on the construction of a new library and recreation center near the intersection of Thompson Road and Highway 119.
The roof has been installed on the new library building, and the foundation has been poured for part of the recreation center.
The city stated that the recreation center will feature multiple indoor courts, event and meeting spaces, an indoor walking track, a workout and fitness area and an outdoor pool and splash pad.
The new library is expected to be nearly three times the size of the current facility, offering expanded collections and more space for library programming and community events.
The 84,000-square-foot recreation center and 19,000-square-foot library are scheduled to open to residents in early 2027.
