In another sign of the booming market for data center construction, semiconductor projects and tech-focused work, San Francisco-based contractor Webcor LP said it would acquire GCON, a Phoenix construction management firm, with completion set for the fourth quarter.
Tranaction details were not disclosed.
“This is an exciting opportunity for Webcor to expand our portfolio and enter previously untapped markets,” said President and CEO Matt Rossie. “GCON brings deep expertise in the technology sector.”
The CM firm specializes in technology-driven construction, noting “active mission-critical environments across 10 states” that will expand Webcor expertise and client base to compete for larger and more complex projects.
For GCON, the deal opens access to financial backing of Webcor parent company, Japan-based contractor Obayashi, allowing pursuit of larger-scale projects and geographic expansion.
“This strategic relationship allows both companies to play to their strengths,” said GCON CEO Mike Godbehere.
GCON will continue to operate “under its current leadership and brand” but the firms did not note any new title for Godbehere.
The firm was established in 2003, has about 200 employees and claimed revenue of $325 million in 2024. Webcor ranks at No. 122 on ENR’s Top 400 Contractors list, reporting $1.12 billion in revenue last year.
