2 new clinics off Highway 84 near McGregor set to increase access to healthcare in rural communities

McGregor, Texas (KWTX) – Being able to see a doctor quickly is getting harder in Texas, especially if you live in a rural area.

The Texas Rural Health Association says the state is struggling to afford rural healthcare, with 20 rural hospitals closing since 2010.

Despite these struggles, McGregor and the surrounding community is celebrating two new clinics coming into the area.

Rural communities along Highway 84 towards McGregor will have two clinics to go to, Baylor Scott and White’s new clinic, or the incoming Coryell Health clinic.

Executive director for Economic Development in McGregor Andrew Smith says the two clinics can be game changers for those who have to travel.

“The fact that you may not have to go to one of the two big hospitals within the city of Waco for something minor is a big convenience, as well as an option for the people who live out this way,” Smith noted.

The new Baylor Scott and White clinic opened for the first time today, with new physicians taking in new patients of all ages.

Coryell Health had a groundbreaking for their new clinic with some of their physicians, looking to help bring easily accessible healthcare to the area.

The new clinic is expected to be 30,000 square feet with 10 treatment pods and 5 procedure rooms.

Coryell Health CEO, David Byrom, says while rural healthcare hospitals are still dealing with changes in state and federal funding, they are doing what they can to help rural patients across Central Texas stay healthy.

“So, we are part of trying to get folks to navigate that system as easily as they possible can because it can be quite confusing with the different insurance products and the barriers to care that keep getting put up,” Byrom said.
