LA CROSSE (WKBT) — A new apartment building with innovative space-saving technology broke ground in La Crosse Wednesday, offering a unique housing solution for students and young professionals seeking move-in-ready accommodations.

Three Sixty Real Estate began construction on “Badger West” at 431 West Avenue North, a 48-unit building that will feature expandable studio apartments equipped with transforming furniture operated at the touch of a button.

The apartments will include convertible loveseats and beds designed to maximize living space in the studio units. The concept allows residents to transform their furniture as needed throughout the day, creating a more functional living environment.

“There’s a loveseat and a bed involved in it. The idea is if you’re a graduate student from outside the area, you can move here with your car and a box of clothes and linens and you’re good to go,” said Jeremy Novak, vice president of development for Three Sixty Real Estate.

The development specifically targets upperclassmen and young professionals who are seeking independent living arrangements without roommates.

“What we see in the market is upperclassmen, so juniors, seniors, and graduate students don’t want to have roommates, they’re more focused on their schoolwork and getting on with their careers,” Novak said.

Rent prices for the units will range from $1,099 to $1,499.

Company officials have not yet announced a timeline for when construction will be completed.
