CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. (DC News Now) — West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey was in the state’s eastern panhandle to round out the week and shared his positive outlook about the Mountain State’s energy industry’s future.

The expansion of a natural gas pipeline is projected to fuel more than 47 million cubic feet per day to homes, businesses, and industry.

The governor is coordinating with the state’s public service commission to extend a new gas distribution line from Berkeley Springs through Martinsburg and into Jefferson County.

“Given the proximity that West Virginia has to Loudoun County and a lot of the tech and data work,” said Morrisey, “there [is] a chance to really leverage that.”

However, the expansion is not exclusive to West Virginia. Loudoun County is also looking to import new energy sources as its data center industry experiences rapid growth.
